Pretty in Pink

I had so much fun coloring a 'different' color hair last week I decided to do it again this week.  I opted for pink this time!  I colored Yumi with my Spectrum Noir markers after stamping her using IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento™ Dye Ink in Tuxedo Black on Ultra Smooth white card stock.  Here are the colors I used:

Shirt/Shoes: CG1, CG2, CG3 (heart PP2, PP4)
Pants: GB10, EB5, EB8
Hair: PP2, PP4, PP5
Skin: FS2, FS3, FS9 (CR3 in ear)
Eyes: TN3, TN4

I also thought I'd give her a bit of eyeshadow (CG2) to make her super sassy :) I paired the colored image with Authentique's 'Lively' paper, and tied on a pink ribbon topped with a cream bow.

People often ask me what order I color an image in.  It really doesn't matter, ultimately, but I usually do clothing (shirt first), then hair, and skin last.  But it's a personal choice!

Simply Amazing

My darling daughter started third grade yesterday, and I'm not even going to pretend I'm not emotional about it.  Our summer absolutely flew by - it felt like we were always going somewhere (because we were).  It was a big summer for my girl, too.  She mastered riding her bike with no training wheels, went to soccer camp, and discovered a deep love of Greek mythology. I'm so proud of all of these milestones, and I try not to get all weepy in front of her (but silently I'm freaking out that she'll turn eight in a month!).

When I sat down to make her a card for her lunch on her first day of school, I knew it had to be special.  In her school, third grade is when everything gets a bit different.  She changes classes, grades get tougher, and has standardized testing.  She's nervous. And I just want her to never, ever forget how truly amazing she is.

That's where this fun Yumi and Fumi Handmade stamp, Yumi w/ Bookbag, came in.  I stamped it on Ultra Smooth White card stock with an IMAGINE Crafts®/Tsukineko® Memento™ Dye Ink full-size inkpad in Tuxedo Black.  I colored it to coordinate with my patterned paper, using my Spectrum Noir pens:

Skirt/Shoes: PP3. PP5. DR5
Shirt/Socks: GB4, GB6, GB8
Bag: BG4, BG6, BG2
Skin: FS9, FS3, FS2, CR3
Eyes: GB8, EB3
Hair: DG3, CG2, CG1

I added a wonderful sentiment that tells her exactly what I want her to know, and a few bits of pink bling.  I'm a giant fan of the green hair - I'll be using this fun combo again soon!

Panda Goes to School

Hi everyone! It's Taylor here again today, and  I'm excited to be back with another fun post this week!

Ok, seriously - HOW cute is this Fumi Panda image from Yumi & Fumi Handmade?  Really, all of this stamps in the Kigurumi Kids series are adorable, and they ALL need to come live with me.  Soon.  Really, really soon!  But I started my collection with this panda, because we have a lot of love for pandas in this house.  Kung Fu Panda was the first movie we ever to our daughter to in the movie theater, way back when.  And I brought my son a panda bear stuffed animal back from a trip to England earlier this year, and he never goes to bed without it.

I colored this cutie up with my Spectrum Noir markers and paired him with some fun school-themed paper from My Mind's Eye.  My daughter heads back to school in a week (a WEEK?!?!!), and I need to build up my stash of cards to put in her lunch every day!

Last week I promised step-by-step coloring pics, but thanks to the weather they just didn't turn out well. I'll try again for next week!

Panda suit: IG10, IG8, IG6, IG4, IG2, IG1, blender
Skin: FS9, FS8, FS3, FS2, CR3
Eyes: IB4, IB2
Hair: GB8, GB10, EB3, EB5

A couple of coloring tips:
-  Work in small areas, and complete the image in sections.  This helps the colors blend together well
-  Don't leave white areas uncolored.  Using a very light grey go around the outer edge.  The soften the harsh edge of that line with the blender pen.

I'd love for you to stop by my blog to see what else I've been up to!  And if you haven't played along in the current 'Anything Goes' challenge, you totally should! You could win a $15 gift certificate to the store, or a 10% discount code!

Summer Fun With Chuckles & Fumi!

I'm SO excited to share my first projects as the August Guest Designer for Yumi & Fumi Handmade! I really love these stamps, and I've shared a few projects using some of them on my blog before. I was over-the-moon excited when I was asked to be the guest this month!

I've been on vacation at the beach for the past week, so when I got home this weekend I was totally in the mood to color up these newest releases from the Hang Loose series. I really wanted to make a card for each of my kidlets, to thank them for such an awesome family trip :)

I started with Summer Chuckles, for my three year old son.  Chuckles is kind of perfect, because he's so stinkin' cute - I love his smile! Plus, he's a boy..... and since I have a boy, I'm always on the lookout for good images to use for him.  That makes Summer Chuckles a must-have stamp in this house! I colored him with these Spectrum Noir pens:

Skin: FS9, FS8, FS3, FS2
Shirt: OR2, OR3, CR10
Shorts: IB1, IB2, IB3, BT6
Shoes: EB2
Eyes: IB1, IB2

Next I colored up the adorable Summer Fumi for my soon-to-be eight year old daughter, using these Spectrum Noir pens:

Skin: FS9, FS3, FS2, CR3 (cheeks)
Hair: GB10, GB8, CT2
Shirt: PP5, PP6, DR6, CR7
Shorts: LY1, LY2, LY3, CT4

I embossed the card base and added some sparkle to the small flowers, because my girlie loves flowers and sparkle!.

I'll be back next Tuesday with more awesomeness using Yumi & Fumi Handmade stamps, and I'll be sure to take some step-by-step coloring photos as well!! Until then, be sure to check out the Yumi & Fumi Handmade Facebook page and current challenge

Welcome our August Guest Designer

Morning everyone!
Hope you all had a nice weekend!  Did ya get a chance to see Team Yumi's post yesterday?  It's very rare that we have an Anything Goes challenge and what better way to start off the new season than that?  Great projects from Team Yumi, they really know how to start it up.  Can't wait to see who joins and what you decide to share. :)

I'm popping in today to share some wonderful news!  We haven't had a guest designer in quite some time, but I'm really excited to say, we do for August and she's AWEmazing!  She's just about the busiest individual I know and I'm so happy that she's going to be joining us this month.  She's been here a few times before to help us with our Winter release and our recent 1 year anniversary blog hop.

WELCOME TO THE OHANA...

TAYLOR USRY!!

My name is Taylor Usry. I live with my amazing husband and wonderful kids in southern VA. I'm lucky enough to work full time from home, as the Social Media Manager for Crafter's Companion Ltd. having a crafty job that allows me be home with my family a lot, travel a bit, and craft on the side is like a dream come true!  Plus I love all things social media, too :)
I'm often asked if I have a particular style - I just say it's all over the map. There are few things I'm unwilling to try! I've had a love of crafting since I was very young, and I love passing this art on to my own children. I have a serious love of coloring!
In addition to working with the talented teams at Crafter's Companion UK and US, as well as the Spectrum Noir team, I also am lucky enough to be an Artist-In-Residence for IMAGINE Crafts/Tsukineko.  I'm thrilled to be joining Yumi and Fumi Handmade for the month of August!

Believe me when I say we are pretty lucky to have her join us. Can you imagine having a job like hers?  Totally dreamy!!  I'm sure when I say I'm jealous, I wouldn't be the only one to voice those thoughts.  These companies are really lucky to have her.  And for the month of August, we are too!! :)
Love that she uses coloring mediums other than Copics. Looking forward to her projects and maybe if we're lucky she'll give us some pointers on how to work with Spectrum Noir pens.  Just thinking out loud! ;)

I found some cards featuring Summer Yumi, Winter Yumi and Winter Fumi on her blog.

Love how she uses paper and other elements to create her cards, the layouts are really cool and her coloring is outstanding!  Be sure to give Taylor the warm welcome she deserves. Visit her blog: The Quiet Moments
She'll be back tomorrow and every Tuesday in August.
Yay!!

Have a wonderful day!!
